Troeltsch, Ernst
Troeltsch was born in Augsburg, Germany, and he taught at the Universities of Göttingen, Bonn, Heidelberg and Berlin. He also served for a time in the Ministry of Education. He is remembered for his Die Absolutheit des Christentums, his Der Historismus und seine Probleme and his Die Soziallehren der Christlichen Kirchen und Gruppen. He also is remembered in his sociological work for making the classic distinction between Church and Sect. He was highly influential on later thinkers such as Baron von hügel.
